System frezes when trying to match images to gpx track

Description
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- open local gpx file
- open relevant images file
- correlate screen is different, with no file info added, and any clicking freezes system, requiring reboot
What is the expected result?
Would normally identify image for time offset, but that stage isn't reached.
Expected next screen
Would show a list of image files to select from
What happens instead?
Any attempt to select in popup screen freezes the screen and causes system to lock. Killing Josm doesn't resolve.
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
Screen image is overwritten by shading (and I saw 'yousendit' in one part(?)).

This is a Java bug caused by its ignorance of Linux Mint's window manager, see this ticket comment for additional info:
