MapPaint style switcher is inactive if there is no data layer although a style influences the display

MapPaint style switcher (View menu) is inactive (greyed out) if there is no data layer although a style influences the display.

The background colour is depending on the last selected style (Potlatch white, JOSM black) but cannot be changed unless you create or load a data layer. That is if relevance if you display gpx traces (on top of a half transparent mapnik layer).

Should be: the switcher should be active if the style influences the display.

OK, thank you so far! Is there a reason to not enable it all the time? E.g. the Map paint style also affects display if you have those two layers: mapnik and bing (both half transparent).

At skyper: I don't see a "toggle dialog". However, I mentioned a workaround in my initial post: add a new data layer.

Either use the main menu "windows" or left panel to open the dialog on the right side.

The bug is not fixed completely (tested with version 6060): Load a gpx file which only contains waypoints. Then it is not possible to switch the mapPaint style (influences background colour). Also see my comment:5.
