Search string isn't remembered

Description

Until the latest version, I would run a search, hit ctrl-F again and the search I just made would be in the search string box. Now it's blank all the time and I have to hit down down enter to get it back.

Hell, this also happens when adding a value (alt-A). The key is remembered but not the value. This is annoying enough to bump up to major, IMO.

Probably caused by r5479. This may be also the cause of first point of #8012.

Regression confirmed.

EDIT: as expected, this works in r5477.
