Description (last modified by )
As the subject sais. This is broken since quite some time. For example it does not work at downloading data or if Josm tries to open a not existing file (invoked via CLI).
Clicking [x] works.

I tried to download node-history, but the connection was slow. I pressed cancel and nothing happened until download was ready.

#5291 has better description of the "2 model dialogues" bug.
I guess this ticket is roughly about the same.
However your problem is unrelated and can go in another report.

I can't reproduce the error now. Maybe in the five weeks between filing and first answer some updates at josm or java changed something.
Sry for bothering.

Well, for me this only happens with a certain probability, I doubt the error is gone in this time.

ATM I can reproduce this behavior with JOSM latest and History (Versionsprotokoll). Double clicking at an object in history gives a dialog "Loading Versions" which can't be canceled by clicking cancel.

In-cancel-able API calls are discussed in #5369.
Please reopen, if the file handling is still/also affected.
