One question: Could you use earlier JOSM versions without problems, or is it the first time you try this software?
There seem to be problems with your Java VM. (If you like you can write a bug report for the gcj project, but we cannot do anything about it.)
Please consider using Sun Java VM or OpenJDK. I recommend version 1.6 since support for 1.5 will be dropped in a few days.
