  • what "dialog window" are you referring to?
  • "trying you action" - which "action" should one try to reproduce?

I'm also reclassifying it

Operation System? Which toolkit do you use if linux?

comment:3 by skyper, 14 years ago

It happend on several dialogs (relations, exit, warnings ...)

The actions where trying to edit a relation , exit JOSM, warning about moving man objects ...

Debian 9.10, r3074, sun java 6, gtk

there is package name *toolkit* installed or what toolkit do you mean.

comment:4 by skyper, 14 years ago

It was there again.

I forgot to mention the download dialog and the progress window.

So far only the progress window and not totally empty.

I think this has something to do with setting the size of the window. I sometimes get weired looking windows like:

screenshot

and with conflict- or relation windows the same, everything is shifted to the left.
Yesterday it did not happen with r3094

progress-bar just happened again (r3097), and the session is still running. What can I do to help debugging ?

You could start JOSM like that:

java -Djosm.home=/home/<username>/.josm-new -jar josm-latest.jar

It creates a fresh preference directory. If you cannot see the error in this new session, then some Plugin or strange setting is causing these artefacts.

In deed, I do not get it with a new pref-dir so far. (r3097).

Strange because yesterday it did not happen at all, and last week JOSM was almost unuseable because it appeared on almost all dialogs which totally blocked the window and there were no buttons at all.
I gonna try the different plugins

Maybe it depends on the phase of the moon, watch out! :)

Replying to bastiK:

It definitly depended on sun java. Did not appear with openjdk.
Since totally empty dialogs did not appear again (with r3094 and later), I turn this down to minor.

It did not happen anymore. I leave it open for a few more days but I think it was fixed with a update of plugins. I do not know yet which one.

It is back !

It appeared after some time editing. I only have validator installed and I am editing on just downloaded/fresh data. I did not much change in prefrences and anyway they are only 9 or less days old.

The windows are way to large and the size is not saved anymore.
I can leave the session running if there is any interest.

Seems to me that it has/had to do with an old preferences file. JOSM should update the motd number in preferences.

No, it is back with r3179 and sun.
I get it when adding a new tag. retrying often works.

comment:19 by skyper, 14 years ago

I still get empty or artefacted windows. It startes suddenly after some time working and gets worse. First it works on the next try but later you need to try it several time. I get it on new Windows and the top entry in the layer-list is not shown aswell. In between sometimes it works right away but that is an exceptional case and the next windows are usually off again.

I switch back to openjdk which I prefere anyway. So far I had only one bug cause by openjdk but some cause by sun. I was told often to use sun. but that was only once the problem.

This sounds like other opengl-Problems. Do you use OpenGL-Display settings in java?

comment:22 by skyper, 14 years ago

As far as I know: No.

I did not change any settings for java. (ubuntu standard)
I only use -Xmx and -Djosm.home
I do not have libjogl-java installed

I have started java with -verbose. There are only 4 lines with opengl:

[Loaded sun.java2d.opengl.OGLGraphicsConfig from /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.15/jre/lib/rt.jar]
[Loaded sun.java2d.opengl.GLXGraphicsConfig from /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.15/jre/lib/rt.jar]
[Loaded sun.java2d.opengl.OGLSurfaceData from /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.15/jre/lib/rt.jar]
[Loaded sun.java2d.opengl.GLXSurfaceData from /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.15/jre/lib/rt.jar]

I also found some options on the osm-de mailing list from 2-3 years ago. I try to play around.

Does "-Dsun.java2d.opengl=false" help?

in reply to:  25 ; comment:26 by skyper, 14 years ago

Replying to stoecker:

Does "-Dsun.java2d.opengl=false" help?

Seems not to help: I still get the 4 lines.
Nevertheless, I will continue working.
