Description (last modified by )
when using download search in 'places' tab, results are selectable in a list, and upon selecting an entry area is marked for download according to 'zoom' column.
it would be very useful to allow :
a) downloading the selected node/way or other element only;
b) forching a specific zoom level for the selection.
use case : adding a name for some element in another language is nearly impossible for large cities and country names. even if they are found in the list, resulting selected are is huge. manually selecting area only around the desired node isn't possible as well, because zooming in makes the rendered name disappear, but selecting from the last zoom level where this feature is still visible results either in a huge area, or missing the interesting object (or usually, in both).

if i understood the idea behind that plugin, it doesn't help that much - it still downloads lots of information. individual object downloading or low level zoom providing would helpalot when using josm over a very slow gprs connection and on an old computer that's low on resources.
besides, that plugin seems to be quite cumbersome to use for such a simple functionality :)

no. If you use a import-url as used in the wiki (I had posted a link). Exactly that data is used.
In the past I needed some relations. I only had the relation number (was linked in the wiki). First try was to download a node of the relation using position of node. This was awfully. After adding josm-remote-control-links to the wiki pages the problem is gone for me.

ok, while that sounds better, i still cant find a way to easily get node id from osm or jos search results, thus i cant use the workaround anyway ;)

If you zoom the map of openstreetmap in the browser you can activate the data layer. There you can click on the nodes and get the node id. If go to "Details" there is a link to XML data you can use to load data. In newer JOSM there is also a menu element to load that data (no remote control plugin needed).
But it is only a workaround. But personally I do not miss it. All elements I might load alone have a josm-remote-control-link in the wiki.

After you have clicked on a search result you can switch back to the Slippy map tab (which has zoomed to the area of the search result) and adjust the bounding box.
Workaround: Use RemoteControl plugin. Sample for Relation can be found in wiki. Nodes and Ways have similar urls.
