#24108 needinfo defect

JOSM crashed after I hit the validation button.

Reported by: jpn@… Owned by: jpn@…
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: Core Version:
Keywords: template_report Cc:

Description

I closed the window for editing a tag (opening_hours) and was about to run a validation check on the node for the M Labs sample station at 375 Briarwood Circle, Ann Arbor, MI. The crash may have been triggered by the starting validation check, or possibly by closing the tag editing window. Those two events were close together.

Thank you for working on JOSM, it is an impressive work of software. (mapper377, jpn@…)

Owner: changed from team to jpn@…
Status: newneedinfo

Very likely the opening hours tag is the reason. Please add the exact text if possible.

Here is a copy of the tag that caused the problem:
opening_hours = Mo-Fr 07:00-14:30; Tu 07:00-19:00; Tu{1] 10:30-19:00

You can see that there is a left-curly-bracket after the last "Tu" instead of
a left-square-bracket, which was intended, but mis-typed. This seems to be the
only suspicious element I could find.

I should say that I immediately copied the suspicious tag after the first
failure (I mistakenly called it a crash.) so I could do some testing.

After filing Ticket #24108, I was able (to my surprise) to continue editing.
After a bit of experimentation, I deleted the suspicious tag and was able to
validate all changed elements (there were two problems, with incomplete
footway segments, which I allowed in my changes) and successfully upload it
to the server as Changeset 161,956,358.

My conclusion is that the problem causing me to file Ticket #24108 was a
faulty tag value, as noted above. I hopes this helps resolve the ticket issue.

Thanks,
-jpn (mapper377, jpn@…)
