Description
The tag waterway=water_point is still listed in deprecated.mapcss, but according to its Wiki page it has no longer a deprecated status since 2015 – instead its definition was changed – the text has been adapted to the meanwhile usual usage, which seems to be considered to be correct and OK by the community.
History of the tag and its status (according to the version history of the Wiki page):
- In 2008 the Wiki page was created with the description "A place to get fresh water e.g. for caravans." and the definition This tag is for places where you can get larger amounts of "drinking water". For smaller amounts see amenity=drinking_water.
- In 2013 it was marked as deprecated in the Wiki. And in 2014, its status was also changed from "in use" to "deprecated". The tag amenity=water_point should be used instead.
- In 2015, the status was changed from "deprecated" to "de facto".
- Since 2019-06-08 its status is "in use".
- Since 2019-07-06 it says in the definition: “A place to fill fresh water holding tanks of a boat.”
- According to Taginfo, it currently has 582 usages.
And a history paragraph on the Wiki page says:
This tag was created May 2008 with the description "A place to get fresh water e.g. for caravans." and the definition "A place where you can get larger amounts of drinking water". A caravan tag does not belong in the waterway space, and thus the deprecation (in 2013/2014). In the meantime marine mappers picked up the tag and used it. The tag is used extensively on the UK canal system to mean "a place to fill fresh water holding tanks of a boat". And it's used outside the UK too, see this Overpass Turbo Query.
And it's also not listed on the Wiki page Tag descriptions with status "deprecated".
So I think it should be removed from deprecated.mapcss. Or am I wrong?
