#2076 closed enhancement (wontfix)

middlemouse-info should work in all visible layers

Reported by: dieterdreist Owned by: dieterdreist
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: Core Version: latest
Keywords: mbm info Cc:

Description

The middlemouse button (info about the feature that is over) is not displaying information in the case, that the way is in another layer. Instead it should consider all visible layers, regardless which one is active. The invisible ones should NOT be considered (unlike now).

This should be fixed already.

actually I can't check because the layers are completely broken at the moment. If you make a new data layer it is impossible to reenable the first one (always the secondly created layer active, even when you click the first one).

You need to select the layer to active. JOSM for some time now has concept of active layers.

Replying to stoecker:

Yes you're right, that was the problem (maybe it would be better (usability) to activate layer on double-click instead/in addition to right-click activate).

However the original issue is still persistent: invisible (but active) layers work for middleclick-info, whilst inactive layers don't. The desired behaviour would be: works for all visible layers, don't work for all invisible layers.

I tend to think this should be a WONTFIX, if not, what happens when you select an object that's not in the active layer? Switch layers and select the object?

this is less confusing now because non-active layers get rendered only in grey (AFAIK this was different when I wrote the ticket). You can't select an Object that is not in the active layer (which is what I'd expect, it is good behaviour, don't switch active layer!).
