#20277 closed enhancement (fixed)

Mapillary filter: by camera

Reported by: richlv Owned by: taylor.smock
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: Plugin mapillary Version: tested
Keywords: Cc:

Description

It would be great to filter Mapillary images by camera (substring match, probably).

Usecase: surveying with one camera taking pictures continuously, another for specific items to map (addresses, shops etc).
When mapping, finding the "specific" images is complicated, as they blend in with the "continuous" images even when filtering for an exact date.

Fair enough.

I don't know when I'll get around to this, but this will probably be something that requires using the expert filter dialog.

Technically, adding the information will be easy (it is a per-sequence value), but adding the UI for it will be a bit more difficult.

For future reference (for me):
https://www.mapillary.com/developer/api-documentation/#sequences -- see camera_make.

For me, a "Camera" input field to the right of the "User field" would also do, if it's easier UI-wise :)

Actually, there is already an "Organization" drop-down box there (it only shows up if you are logged in, since I can only get Organization names for organizations that a user is part of).

But yes, technically, I can make a poorly placed UI element fairly easily. The hard part is making it understandable. :)

Got it, thank you for the clarification.
Perhaps it is worth making that field always visible, but disabled when not logged in - with a popup?
Would make that feature much more discoverable.

Regarding camera filters, eventually people might want to filter by make / model, so it might indeed be a better fit in the expert filter for now.

OK. This is fixed in 4a36650a5e21c3d330db5ec8f9c2fdfd42d5c0b6.

Notes:

  • You will have to be in expert mode
  • You will have to know what the camera make/model is already (exact text only, I'm not currently ignoring case)

I also added a method to filter on image quality (see https://blog.mapillary.com/update/2020/11/05/introducing-the-quality-score.html ). It is also an expert-only filter, at this time.
