Extension of the key traffic_signals

Since so far the tag traffic_signals very small in its elaboration fails it would be desirable to incorporate the following extension:

• traffic_signals=* | See here for the values ​https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:traffic_signals
• traffic_signals:direction=backward/forward

The tag traffic_signals=* is half-baked.
The definitions of the values in the wiki are way too specific so they don't fit in other countries than what the writer probably had in mind. It better should describe the purpose/type of the traffic signal instead of the exact color and blinking order.
traffic_signals=controller: no definition is given only a guess that it could mean a street_cabinet or a traffic monitoring station, but then the tag would be nonsense as it would not be a traffic signal at all.
iD adds traffic_signals=signal by default, but I see no real benefit.

Ok, for traffic_signals = * I agree with you. This looks unfinished at second glance.
But adding traffic_signals: direction = backward / forward is in my opinion quite sensible.
