Remote control, adding/removing certificate on Win10, certificate shows in background

Reported by: majkaz Owned by: Don-vip

Description

Just noticed again: When JOSM is running maximised and I need to add the certificate for remote control https, every time the pop-up window, where you need to click OK to add the certificate to windows store shows in background.

This was the case in several older builds, as well in the latest (downloaded few minutes ago). Happened for me on PC (Win10), laptop (Win10) and on another PC (Win7).

The same happens on uninstall. See attached image - it is

It is only a slight annoyance but should be corrected if possible.

The last case was just after starting JOSM, the only visible dialog on screen was the setting one.

The certificate for HTTPS is no longer needed. Modern browsers can access JOSM to localhost in HTTP, from an HTTPS website (mixed-content). I'd like to remove https support to simplify the whole experience but we've not reached consensus on this question.

See #10033, #15569, #15748 for more information.

My advice is to simply disable https support in remote control preferences.

Resolution: fixed
Status: assignedclosed

In 15469/josm:

fix #10033, fix #15748, fix #17097 - drop remote control https support

Rationale: all modern browsers (including next version of Safari) allow mixed-content to localhost.

Cross-platform / cross-browser HTTPS support is a pain to maintain, was never completed, and is no longer needed.
