Fetch compressed list of Maps

Description

As Maps grows more and more, the call to maps becomes slower and slower (the file is more than 3 Mb).

We should implement an endpoint which returns the data in compressed format (zip or gz) so that the download is faster when updating Maps from JOSM.

I guess this is feasible with Trac?

Status: new → closed

This would not change anything. Both JOSM and the server support GZIP transfer encoding. The maps file is transmitted as approx. 600KB and not as 3MB (16%).

BTW: I don't think downloading is an issue. Less than 10% of all downloads takes longer than 1 second.
