javabug:8175809 looks related (zoom issue for Java on OSX Sierra). 8u152 (October 2017) could contain a fix.

How do you right-click? For me, ctrl-click enables map dragging, but the two finger tap correctly displays the contextual menu.

double tap

comment:7 by anonymous, 8 years ago

By double tap, you mean tap with two fingers?

I still can't reproduce it. Tapping with two fingers opens the contextual menu for me, without changing the zoom at all.

comment:8 by andygol, 8 years ago

I confirm this issue.

  1. Zoom in/out with 2 fingers using trackpad
  2. Tap 2 fingers
  3. Map is zoomed before context menu appears

Well damn it, it does it for me now! Great, so it doesn't happen all the time. It comes and goes as I go between modes, so maybe it isn't a javabug.

This is 5 years old. On my mac these days panning of the map data seems to work fine. I do it with a ctrl+drag, but I just learned that it also works with a two-fingered drag. Thanks for that! I can't get any panning happening with any kind of tapping though (or any context menus for that matter). Long story short I think things have changed a lot since 5 years ago (changed in Java & MacOS as well as JOSM) Any mac users still unable to pan the map data?

(But I came here looking to see if anyone else had reported ctrl+drag stopped working within a geotagged image!)

I've got a notification on discussion of this issue and check it again. I can't reproduce the issue on my Mac Pro M1, so we can close this ticket as fixed or outdated.

Resolution: othersoftware
Status: newclosed

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it was either a hardware issue, an OS issue, or a Java issue (see comment:5). We are long past the 8u152 release (current from java.com is 8u341).

Feel free to re-open if you can reproduce on newish hardware with current Java revisions.
