Description
At the moment it is possible to create self-intersecting and self-tangent geometries (ways). This degrades the quality and usability of data in areas like spatial analysis, text placement etc.
This can be solved by ensuring that geometries (ways) are 'simple' at the data creation stage.

JOSM is an editor for OSM data structures, which explicitly allows such things. If this data structures should generally be forbidden, the place to change is in the server, not one of the editors.
There are some 3rd party tools which detect some of the anomalies in the data and which can already be used in conjunction with JOSM to find and easy replace these structures in places, where it is not wanted. E.g. Joerg Ostertag has some of these scripts available somewhere (wasn't able to find a link anymore :-( ).
