Used 22k times and in several countries (at least UK, Germany, Czech Republic):
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Cyclist_dismount_signs
-> OK

I still do not like it and it makes only sense to me at nodes with barriers, where you can push your bike but not ride. As I already said at least in Germany this sign is unofficial and is not backed up by law.
Did you check if this tag was introduced by an import ?

Yeah, and 14790 times in combination with highway=footway
which implies vehicle=no
, e.g.completely useless and I will always delete this non-sense tag.

Ok, the discussion on tagging@osm seems to manifest that bicycle=dismount is not the tag we need/want here.
Please revert r6297 for now and we hopefully get a decision on a better tag within a week or two.

It is clear that bicycle=dismount does not work and that an new tag like pushing_bicycle=yes/no
is needed as bicycle=*
is only about cycling and not about pushing bikes.
Once more please revert r6297. - Thanks

Well, I miss release blocker. Sure it is only a simple revert and no "real" issue.

Blocker means you can't use a major function :) I'll revert this tonight

what is then recommended way to mark bridging few meters not allowed to ride,
instead of a kilometer long alternative way ?
As marking it as free riding is not proper either.
BTW bicycling - as opposite to cars - is about pushing bikes as well, e.g. off road or on tracks

Somethimg like bicycle_pushing=no

I do not know where you map but in most parts of the world you are considered a pedestrian when pushing a bicycle and have to oblige the rules for pedestrians.

There is a sign called "cycling restriction" listed in http://www.td.gov.hk/mini_site/cic/en/cycling-infrastructure/signs-and-markings/useful-signs.html in Hong Kong. This tag is exactly for that purpose. It is used to mark a section of cycleway which you must "get off the bike" to proceed.
There is no wiki page and I only find it under Bicycle.
At least in Germany this sign is unofficial and either it is a path with only foot=designated where you are allowed to push your bicycle or it is a path with bicycle=yes/designated where your are allowed to ride your bike.
