initial v1 1 1 I see no need for a remapping. JOSM has no problems to keep several instances of objects with the same positive id, so it should be able to keep equal negative ids as well. The "ID generator" and the remapping seem to be used to force unique negative ids, but I don't see why this is done. Maybe it was needed long ago? 2 Edit: Ah, One reason would be if one merges two datasets with negative ids. That would cause more trouble when ids are not unique.
